Zeyton olive extracts – High-Performance Cosmetic Ingredients
Included at low concentration, 2 % to 5 %, in cosmetic creams or serums, they delivered high efficacy in skin lightening, increasing skin radiance and contributing to the disappearance of the uneven tone associated with hyperpigmentation. More info here.
In a trial conducted at an independent laboratory with human volunteers, both Zeyton 5 (liquid) and Zeyton 6 (solid) provided an up to 15 % reduction in pigmentation compared to untreated skin in only 28 days.
These results are in agreement with the results of in-vitro studies that proved Zeyton extracts to be powerful hunters of free radicals and efficient inhibitors of tyrosinase, the enzyme that produces melanin and pigmentation in the skin.
Zeyton’s hydroxytyrosol-rich olive extracts are ideal cosmetic formulations, providing formulation stability, consistent performance, and experimentally supported cosmetic positioning.
In-Vivo Skin Lightening trial
The cosmetic performance of Zeyton 5 and Zeyton 6 was evaluated in an in vivo study in human volunteers focused on endpoints related to skin radiance and tone appearance.
Study design (summary):
- Number of volunteers: 10 volunteers
- Population: M/F between the ages of 23 and 45 known to be free of any skin pathologies participated in this study
- Duration: 28 days
- Application regimen: all subjects were asked to apply 2 mg of each test material to an area of their forearm twice daily
- Measurement timepoints: immediately after application of test materials and then after 3 days, 8 days, 14 days and 28 days. (measurements of an untreated test site and a site treated with the same base cream and serum (with no additives) were recorded.
- Vehicles: Base Cream and Serum (control); Base Cream and Serum containing 3.5% Zeyton 5 and Base Cream and Serum containing 3.5% Zeyton 6.
Key outcomes:
Creams and serums with 3.5% of the ingredient, Zeyton 5 (liquid) or with Zeyton 6 (powder) reduced the melanin index at all points, reaching about 15% in 28 days compared to untreated skin. All measurements are non-invasive, safe and well-tolerated, with no adverse events expected in standard use.
The results are highly relevant for cosmetic substantiation of claims such as “helps reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation” or “contributes to a brighter skin tone”.

In Vitro Studies:
Zeyton 5 and Zeyton 6 were also assessed using standardized in vitro methodologies, supporting the scientific evidence for their cosmetic use. The results showed 30–50% inhibition of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and up to 96% tyrosinase inhibition, supporting a mechanistic basis for oxidative stress defense and tone-evenness/brightening positioning.
